Blessing
Hey I got your letter but I never saw the page
it's unopened. There's nothing to reveal.
I wanted to do better than to be your loving cage
I was hoping - and so it remains sealed
And now that you will see me only in memories
I think that it would free me if you would see me as
A blessing to you - A blessing to you, ah --
A blessing to you - I would have you think of me as a blessing
I will not deny any reason that you gave
I know I'm not the love of your youth
And I will not cry over causes I can't save
But I know I was the lover of your truth
There are no more apologies to be offered in my name
And I hope that over time you will remember me and claim I was
A blessing to you - A blessing to you, ah --
A blessing to you - I would have you think of me as a blessing
The place in my heart where my love for you would hide
Was like heaven - Elysian Fields
I'm sorry you wouldn't come there, the doors were open wide
An invitation that pride wouldn't yield
Hey it's okay the ending couldn't be face to face
Still I pray that you remember me with love and grace and as
A blessing to you - A blessing to you, ah --
A blessing to you - I would have you think of me as a blessing

Do The Math
One by one the lights all fail
Current comes to no avail
One by one the rooms fade to black
The clocks chimes dinner time - No going back
Two by two we unite and unglue
One wants old - One needs new
Two by two ties lose their hold
The clocks chimes dinner time and - Hearts growing cold
Never learned to do the math right
Sometimes it adds up Later it divides
Never learned the sum of two hearts
The clock chimes dinner time - And we dine apart
One and one sometimes equals one
Two and two sometimes equal one
One and one are one when love is fun
Two and two stay ones when love is done
I will sing but math I will not do
Til one and one are one - but can still be two
Til one and one are one - but can still be two, or
Til the clock chimes dinner time - and I dine with you
Or 'til I dine with you

Heal Me
You are the downpour, you are the sun
You rain and shine for everyone
You are adventure, you are no rules
You are at peace with princes and with fools
And for every One of you, there are a thousand of me
Wanting to be part of your greatest works of art
Longing just to feel the hands that could heal me
Your hands could heal me - heal me
You paint pictures in museum frames
You are indifferent to dynasties and names
You make the world turn in perfect time
You are the mountain that dreamers dare to climb
And for every One of you, there are a thousand of me
Wanting to be part of your greatest works of art
Swarming in the night, drawn into your light
Longing just to feel the hands that could heal me
Your hands could heal me - heal me
You lure the ballroom into romance
You are the memory that frees old duchesses to dance
You are the answer to what went wrong
You are an echo of the hero in this song
And for every One of me, there are a thousand of you, a thousand of you - and I am
Wanting to be part of your greatest works of art
Watching, waiting, learning, yearning
Longing just to feel the hands that could heal me
Your hands could heal me - heal me
As if your hands could heal me

My Aunts
Aunt Mina had a tongue as sharp as fine Wisconsin Cheddar
She'd say what's on her mind, and run your life if you would let her
When she was 80 I was stunned to hear her play Chopin
It sure was hard in her small town to outsmart most the men
-- Goodbye my dear Aunt Mina
Aunt Dot was always joking, she always wore a smile
She moved west to Edmonton, her farm stretched out for miles
She'd chase my brothers with some scissors trying to cut their hair
She always made us laugh, her gift for mirth was far too rare
-- Goodbye Aunt Dot, and Goodbye my dear Aunt Mina
Aunt Boots was my uncle's wife, she was so full of grace
She had a kind serenity that shone upon her face
When I was born my Mama had to let her care for me
But she was happy in her kindness shown to family
-- Goodbye Aunt Boots, Goodbye Aunt Dot, and Goodbye my dear Aunt Mina
Aunt Weesie never married, so she lived alone
She called me her sweet pretty baby, like I was her own
And every time she said she loved me, her eyes would fill with tears
And I believed her every time she told me through the years
-- Goodbye Aunt Weesie, Goodbye Aunt Boots, Goodbye Aunt Dot, and Goodbye my dear Aunt Mina
They were all fine women, every one
Now all my aunts are gone

My Brother's Keeper
The rains came down that terrible Monday, the winds blew out the cries
Tuesday came and the whole world watched while a city was baptized
But where's the salvation after the storm? Creeds are cold, blankets are warm
Why keep faith when nothing is reborn?
The water's rising and it gets deeper every day they have no home
But because I am my brother's keeper they won't rebuild their world alone
Because I am - Because I am
My brother's keeper
I was given eyes to see and a heart that wants to heal
And abundance at my table each and every meal
So when you ask me why I believe that souls who are suffering deserve relief
Where should it come from, if not from me?
The water's rising and it gets deeper every day they have no home
But because I am my brother's keeper they won't rebuild their world alone
Because I am - Because I am
My brother's keeper
I am one of you - I am I am
I've not forgotten you - I am I am
I'll do more than pray for you - I am I am
I'll be a voice for you, a voice for you
The water's rising and it gets deeper every day they have no home
But because I am my brother's keeper they won't rebuild their world alone
Because I am - Because I am - I am I am
My brother's keeper

Jungle Girl
I am not your Venus, you are not my Mars
In fact, all we got between us is this earthling thing of ours
But have me home by morning and I'll leave orbit with you
Then tomorrow it's back to the animals that don't live in zoos
'Cause I like my rock to rock hard and I swing from vines in G-d's backyard
And I don't belong in your world, but I can't help it if I'm a Jungle Girl
I'm a Jungle Girl
Let's pretend we're on an island, shipwrecked and washed ashore
Where no one is sure to find us, for a few days or more
And where the palm trees blow in rhythm to the breeze rushing through my hair
And the stars shine bright as diamonds - the only kind I'll ever wear
'Cause I like my rock to rock hard and I swing from vines in G-d's backyard
And I don't belong in your world, but I can't help it if I'm a Jungle Girl
I'm a Jungle Girl
Me girl, you boy, I'm gonna feed you fish and poi
You Professor, me Mary Ann, come tell me about your magic plan
I'll have Botacelli paint us now, I'll wipe the sweat off of his brow
We'll eat coconuts and lay in the sand, somewhere other than la-la land
So take me home with you now - but not if your mother's there
I don't wanna meet her, I don't ever wanna care about her
'Cause on your world I'm an alien, and I will always be
So tonight let's stay on common ground, come on baby swing from my tree with me
'Cause I like my rock to rock hard and I swing from vines in G-d's backyard
And I don't belong in your world, but I can't help it if I'm a Jungle Girl
I'm a Jungle Girl I'm a Jungle Girl I'm a Jungle Girl

Looking for the Road
I took a wrong turn from my hotel and was going to God-knows-where
When I stumbled over a man. I apologized and I stared -
And I knew this was the last day I could look the other way, so
I asked him, "What's your name? Is your home where you now lay?"
He said, "You may think that I'm wandering - lost. But you should know,
I am looking for the road
They let only good men go - where only good men go
He said, "Everybody's got their story, you can add mine to the fray
I once had a life, now I live day to day, and
Some days the clouds raise and I remember what was
And the faces that I loved I trace in all my dust.
It might look like I'm wandering - lost. But you should know,
I am looking for the road
They let only good men go..."
bridge
I said, "Is there somewhere we could go to get away from the cold?
I was thinking myself I should start looking for that road!
Oh is someone waiting, unwhole for you?"
He said, "No, I'm invisible, at least I am most the time,
When my breath has no rhythm and I'm scared of the divine
But it takes more than the fear of dying to keep me awake
So today friend, I allow, any offer that you make
The world thinks that I'm wandering - lost. But they should know,
I am looking for the road
They let only good men go - where only good men go -
where only good men go

Everybody Loves You
I was laughing hard, driving out to Columbia
The epiphanies started pouring down like rain
The distant clouds no longer black, and redemption riding in the back
See I realized the meaning of your name, and that
Everybody loves you, and if they don't, they want to
Everybody loves you, too
Everybody loves you, too
The man you want to be is shining 'til it's blinding me
Though I see that in the shadows demons wait
I want so bad to see the day you finally burn them all away
But I know this vision isn't my fate, but now
All my friends love you, and if they don't they want to
All my friends love you, too
All my friends love you, too
Will you watch as my lights fade to black, or look away when I look back
Oh there was sweetness, and harmony, and laughter, you gave back to me
So before I go I've got one more thing left to sing for you
It's a simple verse but it's all I have to give -
It's that I hope you find someone and she can write for you a symphony
That makes you want to laugh, and love, and live - live my love! because
I don't want to love you, even though I want to
And you don't want to love me, you and me we are free
So I'm not going to love you, you and me we are through
So I'm not going to love you, too
I'm not going to love you, too

As Long as I Live
I knew a trumpet player, his face was all scarred up, I don't know why
I wonder if he married Denise? I wonder if he ever tried?
There was this guy there I loved so much, he played the drums, he was so sad
He taught me what love was, but I was too scared to understand
So many people I loved and I lost, and I cried and cared in their name
So many people I left in the past, and I'll never see them again
As long as I live
I met a band in Vegas who used to play their songs in Hollywood
They got a gig in this grand hotel for ten years, just because they could
My best friend, she turned on me, and why she did she wouldn't say
I thought she was an angel, but I just had to turn and walk away
So many people I loved and I lost, and I cried and cared in their name
So many people I left in the past, and I'll never see them again
As long as I live
Like the heads hung on a hunter's wall by the big guns, I can see them all
They look so real, my museum, all I could feel, I left up to them
I say, "Thank you for your company, oh yes, thank you, but now I'll take my leave."
They've been taking, they've been taking, they've been taking all I have to give
And now I want to live
Someone wants me to let him in, and I've been trying to make some space
But first I gather you multitudes for one more look into each face, to say,
"Oh, won't you remember me? Your ghosts fade, but they're not gone yet.
So I can take my place beside him now, 'cause today I forgive, tomorrow I forget."
So many people I loved and I lost, and I cried and cared in their name
So many people I left in the past, and I'll never see them again
As long as I live, as long as I live

Friend Like You
Holy Mother can you hear your youngest daughter cry
I bet on wings of eagles but the bird didn't fly
I wore sackcloths and ashes and didn't make a sound
But while waving my white flag, my sorrow struck me down, you know that
These are the days that life will test us, but
Bring it on, you know it will never best us, 'cause
Together we are stronger than all the world's anger
And I didn't have a friend like you - and now I have a friend like you
I held out my hands for mercy and for bread
I swallowed my pride but I remained underfed
I thought of Milton losing Paradise, and his innocence as well, and
And if the same be said of me, I'll have to wait for time to tell
These are the days that life will test us
Bring it on, it will not best us
Together we are stronger than all the world's anger
And I didn't have a friend like you - and now I have a friend like you - and I never had a friend like you
I will cry with you, I'll never lie to you
And say that life is a breeze or that the cold will not freeze
So come meet me in a diner, share a booth with me tonight
And we can tell each other everything will be all right
These are the days that life will test us
Bring it on, it will not best us
Together we are stronger than all the world's anger
And I didn't have a friend like you - and now I have a friend like you - and I never had a friend like you

To Life!
To life! To life! I'll raise a glass to your life
My heart is suddenly beating
Something passed between when meeting - you,
And your beautiful wife
I sing! I sing! To a perfect understanding
I swear that I won't crowd you
I just want to know all about - you,
And your beautiful wife
So right! So right! I'll drink this wine all night
Won't ask for your attention
Or be downcast when you mention -
Your beautiful wife
Farewell! Fare thee well! I hope it's fine to tell you
I'm so glad I got to know you
I hope to see more of - you,
And your beautiful wife
To life! To life! I'll drink a toast to your life...

Animals
Let the lion in your house and lion eat you like a mouse
Let the lion in to play and lion swallow you like prey
Let the lion in your bed and lion will chew off your head
Let the lion in your heart and lion rip you all apart
Animals should live in cages
Lock them up and feed them rice
Animals should be in cages
Until they learn to treat you nice
Give the snake a piece of land and snake'll bite your helping hand
Give the snake a place to rest and snake'll say you're in his nest
Give the snake your only shirt and snake'll drag it through the dirt
Give the snake a loaf of bread and snake'll strangle you 'til dead
Animals should live in cages
Lock them up and feed them rice
Animals should be in cages
Until they learn to treat you nice
Tell the Jackal that you cried and Jackal laugh at how you tried
Tell the Jackal how you feel and Jackal make you his next meal
Tell the Jackal he's your friend and Jackal hunt you 'til the end
Tell the jackal that you're due and Jackal lift his leg on you
Animals should live in cages
Lock them up and feed them rice
Animals should be in cages
Until they learn to treat you nice
